I would also like to believe it is the third point you made. However, is it possible that Nike just thought it was an opportunity they couldn't pass up? Look how many freaking YouTube hits the ad has gotten. It's already gotten buzz up the Wazoo, in fact I heard that Nike's Wazoo is actually full of buzz and there is more buzz waiting in line to get into Nike's Wazoo.
As weird and creepy as I think the ad is, I'm leaning towards it being a home run based on the fact that it is always better to create something that some hate and some love rather than something that everybody thinks is just ok.
