ON THE WEBS

ON YAYBIA

  • PRESIDENTIAL HEADPATS!!! Our greatest fantasy realized.

  • This is pretty much how I see the world anyway...I imagine it's similar to wearing Kanye shutter shades, only I just see Excel rows and columns.

  • SOMEBODY ADOPT THIS PUPPY RIGHT NOW AND LET ME COME PLAY WITH IT

Yaybia Weekly Link Love: 4/4/09 - 4/10/09

ON THE WEBS

Nissan Cube marketed to Gen Y as a "mobile device." Yeah, but in MN, I still can't text from behind the wheel.

Facebook hits 200 million users, but for some, fatigue may be setting in. Twitter's growing faster, but it just reached 10 million worldwide uniques this month. We're ready for something new.

How to figure out whether your brand/company should Tweet. Pretty much dead-on.

ON YAYBIA

Coke's Ringtone spot is back!

We're digging Tide's "take care of your clothes" campaign, especially this promo.

LOVERS & FRIENDS

Aaron Landry helped us bid adieu to the best TV show of all time.

On Ypulse, Anastasia and Libby each talk about how Facebook might be on the decline among its original users.

ELY 2016!

LAWL

We didn't laugh at all this week. Send us links!

Yaybia Weekly Link Love: 3.28 - 4.3.2009

On the Webs
  • Good job, Iowa! We still won't change our thoughts on your sports teams. Go Gophers!
  • MA in Social Media? Sounds more like a MA in BS. Good luck with that useless degree as everything you learned in the classroom will be irrelevant because you weren't out exploring the webs.  Internet, you're doing it wrong.
  • Ypulse expands upon an idea from danah boyd about the fading passion that Gen Y has for Facebook. The Yaybies have had FB since before the photo feature was available. We'll continue to stick around, but things have definitely changed.
  • TV Guide is no longer a TV guide. WTF. Why else would you ever even think about stopping on that channel?

On Yaybia
  • In case you didn't know, Spam is made in MN. Gross. Social spam is also gross.
  • Beer + social doesn't just have to be at happy hour.
  • Even though we're new to the biz, we've already seen our fair share of killed ideas. A little fatherly advice in the comments keeps us tuned in to reality.

Lovers & Friends
  • Loyal reader and drinking buddy Michael helped rock the social efforts at his agency to keep Fargo's head above the water.  Cheers!
  • Our oldest ad friend could not have said this better - "Persuasion is not so much about making "strong arguments" as it is about making a human connection."

LAWL
  • Why isn't Erin hanging out with this guy? They could be crutch buddies!
  • And people wonder why we don't like kids?!
  • I almost pee my pants every time I look at this. So effing cute.

Yaybia Weekly Link Love: March 21 - March 27, 2009

ON THE WEBS
  • Fargo is flooding. I normally hate on ND but I really hope everyone can pull through. Volunteers are mobilized via FB and Twitter.
  • KFC (i cannot type that without typing FKC) wants to save your ass while before making your ass bigger.
  • Get excited! Where the Wild Things Are trailer hit the webs. How many times have I watched it? Ohh so many.
  • Why go to SXSW when all the recaps are online? Ok ok, just trying to make myself feel better about not being able to go. But seriously, good recaps!

ON YAYBIA

LOVERS & FRIENDS
  • Our buddies over at Fallon launched a new site and a "life streaming" tool called Skimmer. The design is pretty, but let's not forget that Friendfeed failed because it's a clusterfuck. Two takeaways: we are SO glad that our companies don't publicize our tweets or blog posts and a big congrats for DOING instead of just TALKING.
  • Boring? On Yaybia? As Griner puts it, "Adults use salty language. Adults have political opinions. Adults drink alcoholic beverages." We'll never be boring online . So uh, let's go drink.

Yaybia Weekly Link Love: March 14-20, 2009

Just kidding! I was on vacation all week and Erin's having knee surgery today, so you'll have to sit tight and wait for next week's edition of Link Love. Happy Friday!

Yaybia Weekly Link Love: March 7 - March 13, 2009

ON THE WEBS

  • Attention brands: get your email act together.  72% of 18-24s say the branded email they receive is irrelevant and 81% say social network ads are irrelevant.  Maybe that's why Facebook is allowing users to vote on ads now?
  • Take a step back from the Skittles mayhem and read this actual review from a 16-year-old NON ad/web geek.
  • 95% of people who download free iPhone apps have quit using them after 30 days
  • Thru-You = YouTube + Free Time x Steroids = Awesome
  • Everyone at Wal-Marts 5 PR AORs now wants to die
  • Razorfish released their...HEY LOOK CLOUDS...180 page digital outlook report ...OMG YOU HAVE CHEEZITS...but we have a hard time believing...BEER...people will pay attention for that long.

ON YAYBIA

  • Blog shaNAST!
  • This isn't North Dakota, it's advertising. Let's ditch the silos.
  • Much like Yaybia's namesake, some products are so iconic they don't need copy.

LOVERS & FRIENDS

LAWL

  • Cannot. Wait. T-minus 18 days.
  • Despite popular belief, Erin actually hates Libby.
  • Watch another NASCAR race, cuddle with Libby.  #fuckitlist

Yaybia Weekly Link Love: February 28 - March 6, 2009

ON THE WEBS

ON YAYBIA

LOVERS & FRIENDS
  • Advergirl juxtaposes her current media mix with what she should be consuming.  I like the commenter's post that this is still just the tip of the media iceberg.
  • On News from the Herd, Dirk has great insight into how people really want to interact with brands in social spaces.

LAWL
  • I wish I had thought of this ad.   Media + creative = awesome.
  • Firefox Beta and OSX Jaguar!
  • If this had existed when I was in college, I would have gotten to bed before 6am when my papers were due the next day.
  • This makes me hungry.
  • ... ... ...
  • I accidentally busted out a "that's what she said" in front of the president of my agency yesterday.  Fortunately I'm still employed.

  • Measuring the social media buzz about the Oscars
  • AOL, Bebo kill us slowly
  • High Life 1-second ad rocked it. Beer!
  • Social networks will FUCK YOU UP
  • Recovery.gov is cheap and awesome. Like Erin and Libby.
  • This bro hates FB without giving it a chance even though Zuck is trying to make it a democracy

ON YAYBIA
  • Snowmageddon.

LOVERS & FRIENDS
  • Hunt Adkins, home of Yaybia writer Danielle, launches rebrand of Bard's Beer

Yaybia Weekly Link Love: February 14-20, 2009

ON THE WEBS
  • Facebook caused a short-lived crisis when it changed its TOS, then quickly reverted.  Dude, it's the internet.  Do you really expect that the things you put online on a free service are going to be yours forever?

  • Budweiser realized they were a beer, not a network, and yanked bud.tv.

  • We agree with Gawker; 30 Rock needs to tone its product placement down a notch.  We know you don't really love McFlurries, Salma & Alec.

  • If you grew up with it, it's not new media.

ON YAYBIA
  • Dilly bars?  Check.  Yaybia ladies?  Check.  Cutest little girl of all time?  Check.  The only thing missing was the Kittens Inspired by Kittens book, which lives in a cabin up north.

  • Microsoft is to Walmart as Apple is to Target.  Yep, that analogy just got even better.

LOVERS & FRIENDS
  • Aki at the Fallon Planning blog gives us 6 ways brands can successfully have a Twitter presence.

  • Advergirl is back, and bringing the snark!  We're diggin' it.

  • Awesome post by Dirk that outlines blogs as the keys to viral success.  Our interview with Maddie & Al echoed this--blogs like Boing Boing, Buzzfeed, and Cute Overload blew up their hits.

LAWL
  • Amazingly well-written, insightful, and analytical blog about Obama.  Well, his neckties.

  • Go add the Nexus Facebook app right now!  It maps your friend universe and you will spend the better part of an hour staring at the connections.

  • Best Week Ever's list of 100 silver foxes is long but worth it (that's what she said?)

  • Youshouldhaveseenthis.com is the "Collect the Whole Set!" of the Internet.  I've seen most of them.  I intend to complete the list this weekend.  I'm awesome.

Yaybia Weekly Link Love: January 31- February 6, 2009

It's been a quiet week in Lake Yaybia, but here are the goods. They'll go well with your first Beer Friday beer!

ON THE WEBS:
  • The ad world finally kicked its Super Bowl hangover around Thursday. Check our faves.
  • Facebook turns 5 years old (FIVE, FIVE DOLLA) and gets a meme. Skip it.
  • Google Latitude: making it easier for you to creep out online since February 2009.

ON YAYBIA:
  • Ad parodies and interactive YouTube games make for slightly less boring afternoons, no?

LOVERS & FRIENDS:

LAWL:
  • As if Libby didn't correct my grammar enough, now she can send me this. Yo Comments are Whack!
  • Obama gets a little LOLcat action.
  • Advertising named one of the five least marketable degrees. FML.

Yaybia Weekly Link Love: January 26-30, 2009

ON THE WEBS:
  • I guess there's a football game Sunday?  If you're Tweeting about the ads, use #sbads09 and see your Tweets on AgencySpy.  Until then, you can't throw a rock at the Internet without hitting some preview, analysis, breakdown, or tweeting about the ads.
  • The brands that most need to take advantage of social networks in 2009 were the brands with the most organic presence there in 2008.  AdAge lists the top 25.
  • We hated HBO's Big Love campaign that ripped off PostSecret.  Some things are sacred, and Church of Lam (Sunday Secrets with a bagel and coffee) is one of them.
  • We liked the party packs Velveeta sent to women hosting Super Bowl parties.  Reaching out to a consumer one-to-one is a great way to create brand ambassadors.
  • We're up in the air about TurboTax's Super Status contest.  It's definitely viral, but the process to play is complicated and it might come across as gimmicky.
  • The blog world mourned the end of Domino magazine.

ON YAYBIA:

LOVERS & FRIENDS:
  • Big thanks to John Eighmey for responding to our thoughts about online video series.  We agree with your Tweet:  it always comes down to creativity.
  • Puppies and advertising together? Yes, please! Thanks Advergirl.
