In the Name of the Father, and The Son, and the Advertising?

In comparison to our usual conversations about nipples, beer, and WTF moments, this is a first. Let's see how it goes.

(12:24:33 PM) Curt Baker: interesting ad
(12:24:35 PM) Curt Baker: http://boomshockalocka.tumblr.com/post/72614300/pro-lifers-catholic-vote-use-barry-obama-in-an-ad
(12:25:51 PM) Erin Lamberty: wow. yeah.
(12:26:46 PM) Curt Baker: like, im totally pro choice
(12:26:56 PM) Curt Baker: but even i was like....damn

(12:27:53 PM) Libby Issendorf: not gonna lie, it's really good. it puts aside the morals of it, which is usually their downfall

(1:10:03 PM) Erin Lamberty: wow, they even win on their site with just the video + comments + sign up + share options + donate http://www.catholicvote.com/

Not gonna lie, I would probably burst into flames if I walked into a church right now, but this ad for Catholic Vote is the first pro-life/pro-choice spot that takes a step back from the standard moral emphasis and highlights an example that is relevant for everyone in America (and the world) right now.  I'm not sure how this message, or any other PSA related to such beliefs, can actually impact someones morals, etc but at least they're doing something different.  Their site is decent as well.  I love the clear focus on the video and comments.  Maybe they took a hint from the Pope?

We'd love to hear your thoughts!

Ok I am, as some of my friends know, a quietly religious person. I have to say WIN for an ad that doesn't represent religion in a preachy and judgmental light. There are those of us out there who are religious but do not point fingers on a daily basis. Whether or not you are pro choice or pro life, at least this commericial takes a different route to getting a message across.

I have to say WIN as well. They took a step back from the usual Morality of it all, which usually only appeals to people already Pro-Life so won't sway anyone either way. Also, it goes beyond the guilt trip of "You're killing a baby who has fingerprints at 5 weeks" and says, "look beyond your pregnancy and see the potential; Just because it seems scary now, doesn't mean it will be" Much more rational, effective, and will probably resonate with more people than pro-life ads in the past.

WIN... and you know how I feel about religion and abortion.

Really well done, really just a beautiful ad.

I wonder how many people this might persuade. I'm sure it will strengthen the views of many.

The only reason I'm a little "meh" on it is because it's pretty much the video version of that chain email that went around in middle school ALL THE TIME about how looking at life circumstances, most people would think Hitler was set to be a perfect person, whereas someone like Winston Churchill or Abe Lincoln would be someone you wouldn't trust.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but I think you remember what I'm talking about. But hey, if the gorilla walking through the basketball players in white can be translated into a popular ad, why not this?
